Los Barriles Baja California Sur
“Fond memories of Los Barriles include watching the kite surfing – ballet on water – from my hotel patio, eating a smoked fish taco and drinking a freezing cold Pacifico.”

Los Barriles – The Barrels
History
The Baja has been inhabited for at least 10000 years by nomadic primitive hunter gatherers. Using stone tools and living under trees and caves, very little remnants of their lives remain save cave paintings in the area.
Europeans came to the Baja in the 1500’s and tried to colonize the area. They met with little success due to the Indian attacks and harsh desert conditions.
Los Barriles became a fishing villiage in the 1950’s and a few hotels were built in the area. Later when the Trans-peninsular highway was built, fishermen came in droves. The word was out about the plentiful fish on the East Cape.
Divers soon discovered the famous coral reef of Cabo Pulmo Marine Park and windsurfers and kite boarders discovered the lift of the North Westerlies from November through to March.
Los Barriles Today
Los Barriles is truly a laid-back quiet Baja town that has successfully incorporated expat living with the local population. It thrives on tourists and visitors that follow the highway down the Baja. Retirees are welcomed.
Many folks bring their boats or RV’s to the area. Deep water is found just off shore.
