How to Make REAL Vanilla Extract
Making Vanilla extract is an easy and economical way to bring powerful flavors to your baking. Many extracts that you buy commercially use corn syrup to sweeten the product. No need if you you are baking!
Try this
6 vanilla beans
2 cups of bourbon or vodka
Jar with a tight lid
- Slice the vanilla bean lengthwise an put into the jar. Cut in half if you need to fit them into the jar.
- Cover completely with the bourbon or vodka
- Shake periodically. Store in a cool dark place for at least 2 months.
1 Use kitchen scissors or a sharp paring knife to cut lengthwise down each vanilla bean, splitting them in half, leaving an inch at the end connected.
2 Put vanilla beans in a glass jar or bottle with a tight fitting lid (mason jars work well). Cover completely with the vodka.
3 Give the bottle a good shake every once in a while. Store in a dark, cool place for 2 months or longer.
