Name: Originally called Balún Canán meaning “Nine Stars.” The Aztecs changed the name to “Comitlan”, derived from the Nahuatl which means “Place of potters”
It was then named Comitán de Flores and later changed again in 1915 to Comitán de Domínguez, after native son Dr. Belisario Dominguez. Dominguez. Was assassinated because he criticized Dictaotr Huerta in congress.
