Venta is one of the cradles of the ancient Mexican
civilizations. The settlement was populated by the Olmecs, the
culture that predates both the Mayan and Aztec and influenced
both regarding religion, health and medicine, astrology, city
planning and mathamatics.

Dates of Occupation –
Tribes occupied the site as early as 1600 BCE. for hundreds of
years, however the Olmecs and the city of La Venta reached its
zenith between 1000 BC and declined by 400 BC.
Location - coastal plain
of the Gulf of Mexico.
Coastal marsh area. in
the state of Tabasco.

First Discovered – La
Venta was first discovered and excavated by Matthew Stirling,
(anthropologist / archeologist from the Smithsonian Institute.)
Directions:
On Mex Highway 180D drive to KM signed for
La Venta. Turn North and through town. Clear signs direct you to
the Archeological site.
