- The Temple of the Big Tables
by Dorothy and Bill Bell
Temple of the Big Tables
Built between 900 and 1200 AD, the Temple of the Big Tables was
named for overlapping levels. These four plateaus are crowned by
a temple with two columns. The shape mimics the shape of the
much larger Temple of the Warriors.
The temple has undergone some restoration in 1990. In front of
the temple, a frieze has been placed to show the amazing
procession of jaguars among trees and spear bundles. The second
level has a carved feathered serpent.
