Virgin of the Rosario of Talpa

This day is a religious celebration in honor of Nuestra Senora del Rosario or Our Lady of the Rosary.

Pope Pius V in 1517 declared the day an annual feast to commemorate the Catholic Marine States victory against the Ottoman Empire at the battle of Lepanto. The battle was an important victory against Muslim forces expanding throughout Europe. The celebration was then called  “Our Lady of Victory.”

Various popes changed the name to “Feast of the Holy Rosary” and dates to October 7. It is celebrated in a number of different locations in Mexico
